Protecting lives, health, and property.
Because pipelines are underground, line markers are used to mark the approximate location of the pipelines. However, these markers do not indicate how deep the pipeline is buried. Also the pipeline route can take twists and turns between markers. Never assume the pipeline lies in a straight line.
A pipeline right-of-way is the area of land containing the pipeline. A right-of-way agreement between the pipeline owner and property owner is called an easement. Easements provide permanent, limited access to the land to enable pipeline owners to operate, test, inspect, maintain and protect their pipeline. The right-of-way varies in the distance from each side of the center of the pipeline. The pipeline right-of-way must be kept free from structures and other obstructions. If a pipeline crosses your property, please do not plant, place or build anything on or near the right-of-way without having the pipeline personnel mark the pipeline, stake the easement and explain any construction guidelines.
Pipeline Terminology:
High Pressure Pipelines: Pipeline systems that operate at over 125 psi.
Pressure Relief Valve:
A valve designed to open automatically to relieve pressure and keep it below a specified level.
Trunk Line:

Station Block Valve:
A gate valve installed at the inlet (suction) side and
the outlet (discharge) side of the pump station to isolate the pump station
from the pipeline in the event of an emergency.
