Types of Locates
What category does your call fall in?
Compliant Request
A compliant locate request is a non emergency request where the excavator contacts Call Okie 48 hours prior to excavation
and not more than 10 days prior to excavation.
Noncompliant Locate Request
A noncompliant locate request is a non emergency request where the excavator
plans to dig prior to the expiration of the 48-hour notice required by law. A Call
Okie customer service representative will submit your request to affected members
as a noncompliant request. Member companies may not respond on or
before the requested excavation starting time and date. If you choose to dig before
giving proper notification to operators of underground facilities, you are at great
risk of serious injury and damage to vital services as well as fiscal and criminal
penalties imposed by state and federal agencies.
Emergency Locate Requests
The law provides an exception to the 48-hour notice in emergency cases. An
emergency is an unavoidable situation that endangers life, health or property. In
an emergency excavation may begin immediately. Excavators must use extra care
and precaution to protect underground facilities. Excavators should try to call
before digging, but if they are unable, they should call as soon as possible. All
operators of underground facilities within the area of the emergency must be
notified promptly.
